Getting your head around all the new courses in CBCS is a challenge! What courses are for whom; what qualifications trainees need? Who are the courses aimed at? What are the costs?... the list goes on.

In the table below we have tried to give you a quick guide to a CBCS courses. Hope it helps.
 

CBCS/COSCA Certificate in Bereavement Counselling Skills

Selection Criteria - One day selection process with set criteria. Application plus references.
Qualification/Experience required - No prior qualifications in counselling skills required.
Course Duration - 4 modules (6 days per module). 144 hours tutor contact time.
Self Study - Learning journal/portfolio plus 4 written assignments.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - Readiness to practice and superviseda trainee client work from module 3 onwards.
Cost/Who Pays - £450 per module. Trainee or Combination: eg. trainee £300 and £150 by local team/region if nominated or as agreed with Employer/Agency.

 

CBCS Specialist module in Bereavement and Loss

Selection Criteria - One day selection process with set criteria. Application plus references plus self-supporting statement.
Qualification/Experience required - Minimum requirement is COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalentb.
Course Duration - 1 Module (6 days). 36 hours tutor contact time.
Self Study - Learning journal/portfolio plus 1 written assignment.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - No practice placement on this course.
Cost/Who Pays - £450. Trainee or Combination: trainee/local team/region or Employer/Agency.
CBCS/CBC Working with Bereaved Children and Young People

Selection Criteria - One day selection process with set criteria plus reflective assignment. Application plus references.
Qualification/Experience required - No specific counselling skills qualification required. Set experience and selection criteria.
Course Duration - 12 days (72 tutor contact hours)
Self Study - Learning journal/portfolio plus 2 written assignments.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - Readiness to practice and superviseda children/young people work from unit 3 onwards.
Cost/Who Pays - £995. Trainee or Trainee/local team/region or Employer/Agency.

 

COSCA Counselling Supervision Course - New!

Part 1 - Certificate in Counselling Supervision Skills

Part 2 - Certificate in Counselling Supervision

COSCA/CBCS Bounded Certificate in Counselling Supervision - CBCS volunteers who do not have a Counselling Diploma but who do have a substantial body of experience plus CBCS accreditation may be eligible to obtain a COSCA/CBCS Bounded Certificate in Counselling Supervision.
CBCS is the validated training provider

Selection Criteria - Application, references and supporting statement.
Qualification/Experience required - Participants to have no less than the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate (or equivalent) as their training. Part 2 requires participants to have a Counselling Diploma (or equivalent) and substantial, at least 2 years experience as a counselling practitioner, be in a counselling supervisory relationship and minimum of 150 hours supervised client work.
Course Duration - 6 days (36 tutor contact hours)
Self Study - Assessment - The course involves formative and summative assessment. Formative assessments will be in the form of observation and feedback on triad practice/trainee presentations/group work etc and summative assessment will involve written assignments, transcript/analysis, case study (2000-2500 words). Self-evaluation is also a feature of the course.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - A minimum of 12 hours of supervisee work is required plus submission of case study. Course participants will also be required to have one hour of supervision for every 6 hours of supervisee work.
Cost/Who Pays -
£750 (CBCS) £850 (Non CBCS). Trainee or Employer/Agency.

 

CBCS Initial Client Interview

Selection Criteria - Existing volunteers nominated by CBCS local team/region.
Qualification/Experience required - CBCS accredited or experienced volunteers.
Course Duration - 2 days (12 hours tutor contact time).
Self Study - CD self study (approx.1day). Multi-choice ‘quiz’. 3 completed ICIs.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - Minimum of 3 Initial Client Interviews. Supervision obligatorya.
Cost/Who Pays - CBCS.
CBCS Phoneline Skills

Selection Criteria - Existing volunteers nominated by CBCS local team or new volunteers with relevant experiencec. External ‘delegate’ by agreement.
Qualification/Experience required - No set qualifications required. CBCS phoneline volunteer experience or other relevant experience is helpful but not absolutely necessary.
Course Duration - 2 days tutor contact time.
Self Study - NA.
Supervised Practice Placement/client work - No practice placement on this course.
Cost/Who Pays - CBCS.
a Being in a one-to-one supervision relationship is a requirement.

b Other relevant experience e.g. Samaritans, other telephone helpline experience.
c Equivalency e.g. other qualifications that are equivalent to COSCA.

We seek to help anyone experiencing bereavement to understand their grief and cope with their loss.
We work primarily through volunteers, providing free care to bereaved people. We also train and educate individuals and organisations who may in turn be able to contribute to the well-being of bereaved people.
