Lucy lives in the Scottish Borders and is a lover of dogs, running, books and food. In early 2024, following the death of both parents, Lucy decided to become a volunteer listener on our Free Bereavement Helpline.
‘I found myself thinking, talking and reading about grief and realised how many people are out there who want someone to talk to. I was also looking for a meaningful volunteer role and Cruse Scotland was the perfect fit. I can't praise the team highly enough, from the warm welcome, the training, the social activities and all-round support from volunteers and staff alike. Each shift is emotional, rewarding and reminds me how precious it is to give your time, and understanding, to a stranger.‘
‘Volunteering as a helpline listener is a really rewarding thing to do. By helping people in real distress, you feel a great sense of responsibility and reward, and you also keep learning with every call. The support from other volunteers and from the Cruse Scotland staff is fantastic and I'm really pleased to be a part of such a professional and caring community.’
