A Cruse Scotland volunteer who has spent 17 years supporting adults and children through bereavement is to be honoured for her outstanding volunteering at a special ceremony in Aberdeen.
Jean, is set to receive an ACVO Lord Provost Volunteering Award at a Civic Reception at Aberdeen Town House on Wednesday 28 October, celebrating her remarkable contribution to people experiencing grief and loss.
She has volunteered with Cruse Scotland, providing compassionate support to adults and children in the local community as they navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Jean supports bereaved clients at Cruse Scotland’s North Office in Rose Street, offering a calm and safe space where people can talk, be listened to and begin to work through their grief.
The ACVO Lord Provost Volunteering Awards were launched in June 2026 by Volunteer Aberdeen in partnership with the Lord Provost of Aberdeen. The awards recognise and thank volunteers whose time, dedication and kindness make a meaningful difference to communities across the area.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Jean said she was “hugely honoured” and “very humbled” to receive the award.
“I very much feel I am accepting this on behalf of all our dedicated Cruse Scotland team in Aberdeen, any of whom could be receiving this award too.
“We all support each other and feel so privileged to walk alongside bereaved clients at a difficult stage in their lives, in the hopes that providing a calm, safe space helps to lighten their load.
“The last 17 years has taught me so much. I love volunteering for Cruse Scotland and feel very blessed and proud to work for such a wonderful charity.”
Doreen Miller, Head of Client Services at Cruse Scotland, said
“I’m so happy for Jean to receive this well-deserved volunteer award. Jean has helped so many bereaved people over the years and her Jean’s dedication makes her a more than worthy recipient of this award.”
