Supporting children’s skills for life – Grieving

This course examines the strengths and vulnerabilities that children and young people may bring to grief experiences.

Children grow and develop supported by the relationships, the people, and life experiences they share.

Our culture seeks to develop essential skills for healthy living, education, morality and behaviour, but what about the experience of grief?

From resilience to trauma – the adults connected to children and young people play a critical role in their healthy development and capacity to manage the tough stuff life places in their way.

This course will help you understand the needs of children to experience grief as healthily as possible, and includes;

  • Children and capacity across the developmental span; from pre school to adolescence
  • Attachment - the invisible bonds that make us human.
  • Experience of loss – opportunities for growth and vulnerabilities embedding
  • Grief in its expression – strengths and vulnerabilities, the role of hormones

Discussion and examples of;

  • Ways of nurturing grief and expression
  • Rituals
  • Activities
  • Memorials and continuing bonds
